Riders from The Ann Arbor Velo Club, The University of Michigan Cycling Team, and a couple of 'unattached' riders ventured out onto the course of The Cone-Azalia Classic Road Race for a pre-ride opportunity. While the young collegiate riders decided to ride from the University of Michigan campus, the more mature (read: old) AAVC members met up at Original Gravity Brewing Company in Milan. The group rode through downtown Milan and out onto the fabled course at the corner of Platt and Redman roads. As the race is known to do, riders were soon sidelined by flat tires. Two taken out in the first couple of miles, left to replace tubes and limp on. Multiple flats occurred in the second lap as well, reminding everyone of the importance of equipment choice for the opening road race of the Michigan Racing Series.
Some riders found the experience on the road to be less than satisfying, but the carb-reloading at Original Gravity Brewing was enjoyed by all. Clearly, you can make a poor choice on equipment for The Cone-Azalia Classic Road Race, but there are no poor choices on the menu at Original Gravity!
